How We Started
The Origin Story
Dead Jones formed in late 2024 in Columbia, Missouri, when singer Joe Tyler messaged drummer Colin Smith on Instagram after spotting drumming on his list of interests. The two decided to start a band and built the lineup from there — Tyler brought in guitarist Ben Gilmore, a friend from guitar camp and fellow Mizzou student, then met guitarist Ryan Seaton in an English lit class and asked him to join. The final piece fell into place when Smith heard Camden Whitney playing acoustic guitar in his dorm room — Whitney signed on to play bass, and Dead Jones was complete.
